How one youth took steps toward a brighter future
Amelia* was nominated for I Pour Life’s programs after struggling with substance use issues. She went to a partial hospitalization program for drug treatment and began homeschooling to help with this.
As she entered the LifeStrengths program, she expressed an interest in learning more about healthy relationships and taking control of her life. She was invested in the workbook that her LifeCoach, Kylie, went over during their coaching sessions.
With support and encouragement from Kylie, Amelia landed a job and has maintained employment for about 8 months. She saves half of her paychecks so she can afford to buy a car and an apartment when she moves out. One of the lessons Amelia has learned through the workbook is that she can say “no” without feeling bad. This helps her feel more confident and comfortable in her relationships. Amelia has also implemented positive self-talk and daily affirmations, which support a positive self-image.
Amelia has set goals for herself to improve relationships through setting healthy boundaries and maintaining mutual respect. She regularly pursues growth and wants to become the healthiest version of herself.
Older, at-risk, exploited, and foster youth in I Pour Life’s programs can have promising futures. If you’re interested in supporting I Pour Life’s positive youth development programs, visit ipourlife.org/give or give your time as a volunteer at ipourlife.org/volunteer.
