I Pour Life Ethiopia has been assisting the destitute women and at-risk youth of the Kore community of Addis Ababa since 2014.  Following system thinking and social innovation to attain the goal of self-sufficiency, I Pour Life Ethiopia supported the strategic assembly of 53 women and 21 youth to form a Savings and Credit Cooperative Association (SACCA) in Woreda 1 of Kolfe Keranyo Sub City in Addis Ababa.

These marginalized groups have been excluded from the finance institutions of the country all their lives. Now, as the members of SACCA, they can borrow money from it, start their businesses, and save their profits. It is only through this system that they have the opportunity and the autonomy to develop the “culture of saving” and entrepreneurship. It is through SACCA that they will be able to lift themselves from their generational and abject poverty.

Further, another 50 impoverished women joined SACCA in September 2019. The Kore-area Savings & Credit Cooperative Association will continue to grow with new members from the area enabling the members to avail bigger loans to improve their businesses.
